Top Ten Romance Reads

Romance reads are a huge love of mine. There is nothing better than a good romance book or even movie for that matter. I am probably in the 0.2% here but I have to have a little bit of romance in my fantasy and dystopian books as well otherwise I really struggle to get into them. That is something that not everybody loves and everybody has their own feelings about them, to me it just adds that little something more to the story.

I am always being asked by my friends to recommend a good romance to them so I decided it is about time I do a My Top Ten Romance Reads post for those wanting to find there next good love story!

favouriteToday’s post is dedicated to ‘Favourite Friday’; here you will find a recommendation of a book that I personally have found to be a 5 star read. Today’s ‘Favourite Friday’ is [drum roll please…]confess

CONFESS by Colleen Hoover is a book which I absolutely adored, the concept of this book is both unique and outstanding. Colleen Hoover’s male protagonist Owen is an artist who creates art work from people’s confessions, whether they be heart breaking or filled with happiness he keeps each one to create a beautiful piece of work and I can safely use the word beautiful as we get to see examples of this artwork within the book itself which shows just how unique this book is.

Confess was awarded Goodreads Choice Award for Romance in 2015 and once you read it for yourself it is easy to see why. It sets itself on a whole new level within the Romance Genre.

Truly a romantic journey shared by the two protagonists who are so complex and have so much depth to them that it is hard not to fall in love with them yourself. Colleen Hoover’s writing style is easy to immerse yourself into, offering the right balance of description to set the scene whilst also showing her ability to create tension and receive an emotional response from her readers.

Let me know your thoughts on Confess, Colleen Hoover or if your planning on giving it a go in the comments 🙂

Maybe Someday – Colleen Hoover

maybe someday

Title: Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Rating 5 Stars

Summary: Goodreads Summary

At twenty-two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her—and she’s forced to decide what her next move should be.

Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.

A passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance.

Maybe Someday is described as being a ‘passionate tale of friendship, betrayal and romance’ and I wholeheartedly agree. Colleen Hoover did a wonderful job bringing such a new concept into a romance story to set it apart from others within the same genre. Her writing style is easy to get into and the story was one continuous flow for me, I needed to continue to read to find out what happened next.

Colleen Hoover’s main protagonist Ridge is like all college heart throbs, he’s good looking, he is talented and smart but one aspect that makes him a little different from the rest is that he is deaf. Which is something that really intrigued me; I haven’t experienced a story like this before therefore it enticed me to read on to see how Colleen Hoover would incorporate this into the book and how Sydney would react.
This aspect of the story was truly a beautiful addition to the novel; it’s such an original concept.

Maybe Someday isn’t a typical love story in this sense, however similarly to other new adult romances the chapters alternate between Sydney’s narrative and Ridge’s narrative allowing us to experience a fully rounded story.  Both narratives are in first person allowing us the reader to fully immerse ourselves and experience both characters emotions towards an event or other character.
Colleen Hoover’s structure to include both narratives allows us to experience the desire both Sydney and Ridge share therefore building tension between the couple but it also intensifies the feelings of want in terms of the reader. You want to know what’s going to happen, you want to make sure Sydney and Ridge aren’t doomed, you want to make sure they end up together.

Additionally to this, Colleen Hoover uses musical and texting extracts within her writing which acts like a secret language shared between Sydney and Ridge. This aspect sets it further apart from other books I have read before and it added to the story as a whole and its originality.
Ultimately Maybe Someday is offers somewhat deep content within its page but it is worth picking up and trying for yourself because of it’s originality in terms of characters and its inclusion to use musical and texting extracts. It changes the standard form of a romance novel and makes it into something more, Colleen Hoover’s experimentation with the genre truly paid off.
