Hey Everyone,
For today’s post, I wanted to talk about 5 series that got me into reading as a Young Adult. As a child, I grew up reading Roald Dahl, Jacqueline Wilson and Disney but once I got into secondary school that sort of disappeared. But it was when I moved into the Young Adult category, where I truly found my love for reading and that’s when the obsession truly began… So here are the 5 book series that made me fall in love with reading.
Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer

The Twilight series was the first series I ever got into, but it wasn’t until the first movie had been released for about 6 months. I HATED the hype at first, it annoyed me that everyone was obsessed with this franchise and would talk about it all the time.. but then I read it and I fell in love. It was the first time I had read a book that made me want the next in the series immediately. I loved the love triangle, the supernatural element of vampires and wolves and Bella’s awkward personality.
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

The Mortal Instruments series is a series, I will always hold near and dear to my heart. I remember I picked the first 2 books up to read whilst my parents went on holiday to keep me entertained whilst they were gone. Except I finished them in the first 2 days so then I had to get the next 2. The world building is fantastic and the concept of Shadowhunters fighting Demons really drew me in. Since reading The Mortal Instruments, I then got hooked into The Infernal Devices and now The Dark Artifices series!
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I absolutely loved The Hunger Games when I first read it and then so much so, I ended up doing my university Dissertation linked to it. The Hunger Games is a series which made me fall in love with dysoptian settings, it has such an interesting topic of tributes fighting to the death in an arena. Which was something I hadn’t read before in a book. Also I am a major fan of kick ass heroines and Katniss is most definitely that. I think this is a series, I could read again now and still love.
The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine

The Morganville vampire series is a series not particularly well known to many. It has about 15 books to it (I think), I have read the majority of them. After I read Twilight, I was in a serious Vampire mood and this was a series I found in my local library. I got so hooked on it, the concept was really interesting as it follows a town in America being ran by Vampires.
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Ah, I remember reading this series and being so in love with Stephanie Perkins’ writing. Anna and the French Kiss was my first YA romance and it’s one that does not disappoint. It follows a young girl who’s parents send her off to a boarding school in Paris, the city of love, so of course she falls in love. It’s no simple as girl meets boy though because he also has a serious girlfriend.
So, there we have the 5 series which made me fall in love with reading, I soon became a true bibliophile after these and the book buying obsession began! You may be wondering, how is Harry Potter not on this list? I actually didn’t finally read the books until 2017!
What was the series that made you fall in love with reading?

I wouldn’t say TMI and Anna and the French Kiss are the series that got me into reading, but they’re the ones that introduce me to the YA genre 😀
