Blogging and Reading 2018 Resolutions

Happy New Year fellow Book lovers!

I’ve been thinking lately how I don’t really set New Year’s Resolutions but this year something has been nagging at me to set them for my reading and blogging goals. The end of 2016 and start of 2017 were hard times and 2017 was a year of so many exciting things for me such as graduating from university. I hold a BA in English Literature now. I got accepted onto two masters programme’s and chose to do an MA in English Studies. My blog reached 500 followers, I started receiving Physical Arcs, I got invited to go down to London to an exhibition as part of a blogger/press thing. (I couldn’t go but the opportunity was still amazing)

But the year was also really hard, my anxiety gave me so many hurdles I had to try jump over. My dad, brother and sister all had health scares. We are losing another love one who is fighting a battle with cancer. 2018 will be another hard year but I’m pledging here and now that i’m also going to make sure it’s an amazing one.

So here are my 2018 Reading and Blogging specific goals:

Goodreads

This year I have set my Goodreads goal as 50. I also had this goal for 2017 but it says I didn’t reach it although I did because of all the university books I read but didn’t include. I’m not sure why I didn’t just include them, so this year I am!

I probably won’t write a blog post on the books I read for university because I never know what I’m going to choose to write on for my assignments. I don’t accidentally want to plagiarise myself somehow as our essays are submitted and scanned electronically to see if they are plagiarized from across the internet.

I think 50 might be doable, I’m on my second book right now. But I will also have another dissertation to write this summer bigger than my Bachelors degree one so that will take up a chunk of time.

Blogging

  1. Blog about whatever makes me happy.

Last year I was so caught up with statistics even when I tried to not to be. I was so worried people would find me boring or hate what I had to say that I stopped myself from writing so many posts. WHY?!

This year I’m going to go easy on myself, not pressurize myself to ‘fit in’ and just blog about whatever I want to. An old book series? Which my head always says ‘nobody will care about that’ – well if I like it, then i’m going to do it! As I’m telling myself it could inspire someone else to pick it up or just pick up reading.

2) Do different styles of posts!

I want to try to incorporate hauls this year, perhaps unboxings of any subscriptions I get. I currently do get Fairyloot and I adore that box. I also love to watch Films and TV shows in my spare time so would love to do a post on them perhaps once in a while?

3) Just have fun with it!

I have to remember that this blog is a fun hobby. I forget that and put so much pressure on myself but this year I’m going to really combat that and just have fun with it all and you guys!

Finally I need to end this by saying THANK YOU to all of you wonderful, beautiful people. I have made so many wonderful friends through blogging, it has truly changed my life for the better and I could not thank you enough for that.
You are all so supportive and lovely and I feel so lucky to finally have a space where I can be myself.

Here is to making 2018 an amazing year and let me know below if you have any resolutions this year!

  2. Good luck with your resolutions Hannah!

I’ve gone for 50 books on Goodreads too, but I’m not going to lose sleep if I don’t complete it. I have obsessed over stats a little, but to be honest, it gets a bit distracting- so this year, I’m going to do my normal thing of posting and promoting, and only look at my stats at the end of the week. More time doing posts etc, less time agonizing over the stats.

Looking forward to your blog posts for 2018, and to see your opinions on various films and tv shows 🙂 x

    1. Thank you Richard! That sounds like a good idea, just to look at them at the end of the week. I think I will do that as well, just to keep an eye on what might be popular but like you say with the goodreads challenge I won’t lose sleep over it. Here is to a 2018 filled with all you hope for!:)

  3. AHHH I found your resolutions here, I was looking for them ahah 🙂
I hope you will have an incredible year as well, Hannah, you are the best ❤
I love your resolutions and hope you'll manage to succeed in all of these. It is SO important to try and blog about whatever makes you happy and to take blogging as a hobby you love, instead of stressing out about numbers. It's easier said than done, but I believe you can do it, we both can ahah. I'd love to read more diverse posts from you, especially on TV shows and movies, always looking for recommendations 😀

I’m so proud of you and everything you achieved last year! I love the idea of posting about what makes you happy, I know that stats are important sometimes but I think we should all try to focus more on what makes us happy, I’m definitely going to try and do that as well 💖 Also I’m really excited to see posts about movies and TV shows from you!
