Book Collections – How Does Yours Look?

Bookstagram, Book Tube, Book Blogs – you name it I’m constantly stalking it and I always wonder about everyone’s book collections. A lot of people especially big booktubers seem to have what I would call the ‘Perfect Book Collection.’ By this I mean that it all seems to match, they have all hardback books which seem to be all perfect in size and fit perfectly together. I do like to imagine that it is only certain shelves, the ones on camera and then if you could see the other side you would have the shelves of the mismatched.

Me? I’m the Mix and Match book collector. Unless I buy a series around the same time then rarely do my covers match or are the same heights and I’m also a series un-finisher… For example I own the first few Vampire Academy books by Richelle Mead and then I finished the rest on my kindle so I don’t own the rest of the series in physical form. One day I would love to but I have a tiny bedroom which is on the back of my sister and my  3-year-old nieces bedroom. Basically we have one door then I walk through their bedroom to get to mine. I’ve managed to cram a little bookcase in my room, next to my wardrobe so ultimatelly I can’t own every single book although I’m dreaming for a future library like Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Whenever I buy books I also go for the cheaper option rather than the matching option. However I understand completely that some people have to have matching covers and heights due to OCD or other reasons, for them it can be really upsetting if it is different. I am in no way shaming these people for having ‘perfect’ shelves, I just find it interesting to talk about book collections and what type of collector you may be.  People can spend there money however they like, I just want to reiterate that this isn’t an attack on anyone, it’s a discussion on what type of books people like to buy and how their collection looks 🙂

Personally the only thing that I have to do to my book collection is make sure I try not to snap the spine. Even though it shows me how much I love the book obviously, it just is something I don’t like to do. If it happens I curse myself a little then move on, but really I try to keep it as neat as possible.

How do you arrange your books?

As mentioned because I have a small room and I have a small bookshelf so I try to make it look pleasing but mainly I have to double stack my books. I also have a drawer under my bed which I also keep books in. I would love to have a shelf like this one day;

For me because my room is small I have 3 shelves really to work with. I have to use the bottom one for my Harry Potter Collection that’s for sure. I have all my Potter related things on that shelf including Funko Pops, colouring books and guides such as The Artifact Vault. By the way comment below if anybody would ever like me to do a post on the Harry Potter Books I own which are linked to the world such as The Artifact Vault or Film Wizardry.

The other two shelves on my book-case are for new books I need to read and series such as The Mortal Instruments, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, Lady Midnight, Twilight etc. Old and New favourite series.

New or Old, E-book or Paperback?

As mentioned Mix and Matched is my style. I read both E-books on my kindle and also Paperbacks and hardback. I love to buy Old/used copies of books but I usually do this when they are for my university course. If they are for my personal reading habits then I try to look for books which are ‘Like New’. Oh the deals you can get shopping the used sections on Amazon or Abe Books guys! I once got a first edition hardback signed by the author Laini Taylor for a steal of £2. That’s what I like to call Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner. (Reign in the british humour Hannah)
