Top Ten Tuesday – Book Dad’s!

Welcome Back to Top Ten Tuesday. Well Wednesday because I really wanted to do this but I also wanted to get my review up for Love & You by Gretchen Gomez. So this is a day late but Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme set up by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is a Father’s Day freebie so I decided to do my TOP 10 Book Dad’s!

Firstly can I just start this off my saying, this was surprisingly really hard. I read a lot of YA and parent’s aren’t usually around in the books I read or if they are they are the reason in which the protagonist wishes to escape. Therefore this post will have a few from the same series rather than 10 different books!

The first 5 I have are all from J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series.

  1. Arthur Weasley
  2.  Sirius Black
  3.  Professor Lupin
  4. Hagrid
  5. Dumbledore

Whilst not all of these are actually father’s themselves, I had to include all 5 on the list because throughout the book series they have each fathered Harry or the others in a number of ways. Of course Arthur Weasley is the ultimate dad with his caring nature, funny ways and all out greatness.

6) Carlise Cullen (Twilight – Stephanie Meyer)
7) Charlie Swann (Twilight)

Twilight. A Series I used to love so much and I haven’t read or watched in sooo long. Carlise and Charlie most definitely have to make the list though. Whilst Charlie is nervous around Bella he is so loving and just wants what is best for her. Carlise too has taken all of his ‘children’ in and looks after each and every one of them, making sure they are kept in line and ultimately survive in their new life as vampires.

8) Michael Lancaster (The Fault in our Stars – John Green)

Whilst he doesn’t feature too much in the book, Michael is such a great dad. The picture above is one moment which makes me love him more.

9) Big Mav ( The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas)

I read The Hate U Give last week (Review to come up soon) and Big Mav is Starr’s father and boy did I love him. Whilst he wasn’t always present due to being in prison, he turned his life around for his family. He’s stubborn, loving, funny and family is his number one.

10) Luke – Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

I’m talking about book Luke here but also I suppose Luke from Shadowhunters and Luke from City of Bones the movie. Luke isn’t really Clary’s dad but he loves her and is always there to protect her.

Honourable Mention from a TV Show – Sherriff Stalinski from Teen Wolf

sherrif

I love Sherriff Stalinski as much as I love Stiles. He’s consistently funny throughout the TV Show with his facial expressions and annoyance at Stiles. He did his best to raise Stiles when his wife died and he deserves to make this list.

  1. Yes to any and all Harry Potter father figures! They were perfect, PERFECT! I have to say that Hagrid is probably my favorite out of those five and Sirius is also very close.
I also think Big Mav from THUG was amazing too, even though he had his flaws he was still a good father! Can’t wait to see your review on that book by the way! 😁

    1. Thank you Heather! I really need to get typing it up. I definitely agree, I loved in the books how Hagrid was the one to carry him to Privet Drive and back to Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows. A very special father figure he truly is.
Thank you again for reading ❤

  2. I loved Charlie Swan lol. It wasn’t in the book, but there was a scene in the first Twilight movie where he was about to meet Edward and he cocked his gun before saying “bring him in.” Everyone was dying in the theatre lol.

  3. This is such a great list! Arthur Weasley is such an amazing dad, I love him ❤ Off the top of my head, I really loved the dad in The Inexplicable Logic of My Life, and Lara Jean's dad in the series, they are both such amazing dads ❤

    1. I need to reread To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before again soon especially as the third book was released. I can barely remember the dad in the series but Aimal from Bookshelves & Paperbacks also mentioned about he would be included on her list! x

  4. Great list! It’s actually opened my eyes a bit and shown me that there really aren’t many great dads in the YA books I read – I’d probably add the father from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before to my list, but most everyone else would be the same, ha. Arthur Weasley is so wonderful! And despite my aversion to Twilight, I did really like Charlie Swan as a father. 🙂

    1. Thanks for reading Aimal. There definitely is a lack of great dads in YA, it’s like the whole disney thing and killing off the parents. It’s like a trend? It’s been so long since i’ve read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – I need to reread that soon! 🙂

  5. Those are all such perfect mentions! I don’t know why, but Twilight keeps reappearing in my life lately and I am reminded of how much I used to love those books when I was younger. It’s such a shame that went away a little bit for me when the movies became really big.

    1. Thank you Kat! Perhaps its a sign to reread the series? I have never read them again since I loved them so I wonder how I would find them now. I probably would love them just as much if i’m honest. I hated the series at first until all the hype died down from the first movie. Then I finally dived into it and ended up loving it!

      1. I only have the books in German and the first one in French, sooooo … I really don’t want to reread it in those languages but I also don’t want to spend money on the English ones hahaha
