Books I Want to Read in 2017…

Hi Guys!

So as you will know from my last post, I’m drowning in university work right now. My dissertation and other essays are taking over my life but I am determined to keep posting as often as I can.

With so much university work, I haven’t been able to read for pleasure and it sucks so bad. I know you will understand the itch I have to grab a book. So I’m going to relive that itch right now by writing about the books I really want to try to read this year and for this list i’m going to be going off the books that are currently sat on my Bookshelf. The ones I bought and still haven’t read.

First thing first I’m going to have to give you a confession. This is the one where Winston Bishop (New Girl) would be coming up behind me quoting ‘Shame, Shame I know your name’. You’ll be shocked because I talk about my love for this series all the time… it’s Harry Potter.
I still am yet to read Half Blood Prince and The Deathly Hallows!
I can sense the shock now. I have read all of the other books but then I end up drowning in work every time I get to these books so when I finally get a moment to pick them back up I feel like I should start the series again so it’s fresh in my mind and then I end up stopping before I get to them again. It’s a vicious circle. I’m thinking I’m going to have to bypass that plan and just pick them up without the others being fresh in my head.

The Hogwarts Library

Again eI’ve had this collection on my bookshelf for gosh I can’t remember since when. But I really want to read these at some point, the box includes;

  • Quidditch Through The Ages
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them
  • Tales of Beedle The Bard

I’m thinking I might be able to pick these up soon as they are only small so it won’t take up too much time… right?

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – J.K Rowling Screenplay

Of course sticking with the magical theme, I have also bought Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them. This one was in fact a recent purchase because I still haven’t read it. I have seen the movie though and absolutely loved it. Eddie Redmayne is perfect.
I really want to give this a read, especially since I still haven’t read the one from the Hogwarts Collection Box set so it will be interesting to see what that one is actually about and how they both differ from one another.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo (Six of Crows #2)

If you read my Six of Crows review (spoiler free by the way) then at the end you will have read how I ordered this via Amazon Prime so I could pick it up as soon as it arrived… well that didn’t end up happening. I loved Six of Crows so I really want to get to this and see what happens next to the gang.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J.Maas

I purchased Throne of Glass so long ago. I have heard mixed reviews about this one but I adore Sarah J.Maas A Court of Thorns and Roses series so I really hope I like this one too. Frankly the only thing putting me off from picking it up right now is the fact there are so many books to the series. This might be one I pick up once I have finished University and it’s summer time.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I’m not sure why I haven’t got to this yet, I was so excited when I received it in the mail yet it has just sat on my bookshelf since. I think one of the reasons is that I got a hardback cover and when I pick a book to read on the train or something I go for paperback because their much easier to travel with.

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

This one I’m slightly angry about because I have the old hardback cover version for the first and second book! I love the new covers, I wish I had waited before buying them. I remember I purchased The Bone Season in hardback from the works a year or more ago for £2. Of course I wasn’t turning down that deal! I’ve heard amazing things about this series, mostly from Ashleigh from @www.afrolicthroughfiction.wordpress.com/ as she adores this book. I definitely want to get to it this year so I can see what it’s about for myself.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Again this is a book that I bought and just let sit on my bookshelf. Why do I do it guys? Please tell me you’re the same. I remember hearing mixed reviews about this one and I’m not sure why I never picked it up but I really want to see what it’s about because I can’t remember any of the synopsis right now.

There we have it folks! Some of the books I can’t wait to finally pick up and I really hope I finally do pick them up in 2017. Some of these books have been sat on my shelf for so long and it’s really about time that I picked them up and gave them a shot.

You see I’m weak. I see a book in the bookstore and even though I know I have loads at home yet to be read I still buy it. I’m sure you have the same issue am I right?

Let me know in the comments what books you HAVE to finally get to this year, the books that have sat on your bookshelf for far too long. Also let me know if you have read any books on my list!

p.s feel free to tell me off for not having actually finished the Harry Potter book series…

  1. I’ve just started the throne of glass series this year, the next one I need to read is heir of fire and so far I’m really enjoying it. I’ve heard that heir of fire is where it starts to go downhill though so I keep putting off reading it😂! I haven’t read daughter of smoke and bone yet either but I’ve heard amazing things about it! I want to get to a few other books on this list as well!

    1. Ah really? I can see why your putting it off, it sucks when a series you love has the potential to go down hill because then you start losing that love. Some people disliked certain books of The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare and I honestly loved them all when I read them so I guess you never know. You might still love the rest of them 🙂

  2. I’ve read all these books (except the HP companion novels) and I can say, great pick! I love Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows SO MUCH! I think they’re my favorite books of all hahaha Half-Blood Prince was so much better in book than in movie though 😂 also yes to Crooked Kingdom and Daughter of Smoke and Bone! ToG was okay for me but I love the sequel Crown of Midnight so much and I… disliked The Bone Season. Haha I hope you enjoy all these books though! I have some backlist contemporary I really want to read this year like Radio Silence and The Memory Book but other than that, I’m keeping up with release dates 😀

    1. Oo was it?! Ok I definitely need to pick up Half Blood Prince soon! I also haven’t seen Radio Silence and The Memory Book so I will check them out on goodreads to see what they are about. I’m trying to keep an eye on release dates too because I want to read Lord of Shadows and ACOWAR, so many books and so little time right?

  3. Okay, I’m SO glad that I’m not the only person who hasn’t read Throne of Glass 😂 I also need to read Crooked Kingdom (I’m scaaaaaared), An Ember in the Ashes and The Bone Season!

Half-Blood Prince was my least favourite Harry Potter book, haha. Deathly Hallows is a great end to the series though! The companion books are all really fun too especially Fantastic Beasts. I really enjoyed Daughter of Smoke and Bone too. I need to finish the series!

Also I hope school eases up for you soon ♥♥

  4. Omw so many of these are on my TBR, like basically ALL of them 😂😂
Half-Blood Prince & Deathly Hallows are seriously two of the best books in the series, you’re in for a treat! I’ve read The Hogwarts Library and they were pretty great, but haven’t read Fantastic Beast yetbecause I haven’t seen the movie 🙈 Also I haven’t even read Six of Crows, so don’t even talk to me about Crooked Kingdom 🙈 Then The Bone Season & An Ember In The Ashes are books I don’t own but really, really want to read!
I hope you enjoy all these and get the opportunity to actually read them all 💕

    1. I’m so glad i’m not the only one to have read some of these books yet! I definitely need to read Half-blood prince and Deathly Hallows soon. I picked up the Tales of Beadle the Bard from the Hogwarts Library yesterday and actually really enjoyed it. It was a great extension on the world 🙂

  5. I haven’t read most of the books on your list, but they all seem good, I hope you enjoy them! 😀 And I recently got the Fantastic Beasts screenplay for my birthday, and I can’t wait to read it too ❤

      1. I did, thank you so much! ❤
The screenplay was a nice surprise, because I wasn't expecting anyone to give it to me. I watched the movie when it came out (twice, actually haha) and IT'S SO GOOD 😀 I went the second time just to think about theories that I had read on the internet haha
