Q&A – Get to Know Me Better.

Hey Guys!

Today’s post is my Answers to my Q&A Post from my 200 followers celebration! Thank you again to all my followers and to everyone who asked me questions, I loved answering them and I hope you like my answers. If you click on the names of each person who asked me a question it will take you to their own blog pages which I highly suggest you do for some great reading!

I think you get a little insight into my reading habits in this Q&A… I wonder if you can spot my favorite genres! 🙂

Arielle Tipa – What is your favorite fantasy series and why?

My all time favourite fantasy series has to be Harry Potter, it’s a series I love for both the books and the movies. No matter how many times I pick it up I can lose myself in the stories and I just get this warm safe feeling that embraces me whilst reading. It truly offers me an escape.

Michelle – If you can make everyone in the world read one book, what book would you chose and why?

This is a hard one, should I make everyone read a classic or a contemporary? hmmm… oh the power I have here!
I’m going to be sensible about this and choose a book I think might have some social impact so I’m going to go with Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman. It’s a book which features Racism, whilst being a Young Adult book it hit me hard and truly made me think. I cried the first time I read it realizing that whilst it was a fictional piece of writing in my hand the racism is someone’s reality. 

If I was going to choose a classic then whilst I struggled with it I would say Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Elizabeth Bennett refusing to marry other than for love is a brilliant first example of a heroine rebelling against her patriarchal society. Yaaay for strong women!

Marta – What’s the first book you reviewed on your blog and what differences do you see between that review and the last one you posted?

First off I love your question Marta, it allowed me to look back and relive my first blog posts. My first review might be surprising to some of you because it was actually Goodbye To Berlin by Christopher Isherwood. I decided to review the book after reading it for University and my Post War unit. 

In terms of the differences between that and my last review I posted I would say I have developed the ability to be concise and also structurally layout my review so its easy to follow. I sometimes use little headers with plot, characters and summary bullet points to also make it easier. 
I have to say I also learnt to proof-read, proof-read, proof-read!

Megan –  Where do you see your blog in a year?

I’m not sure where I see my blog in a year, I hope it’s still growing and that people are still interested in what I post. This time next year I will have finished my Undergraduate Degree, I wonder where I will be then? If I do a Master’s Degree or find a job relating to my English Degree?
Ahh the future is scary to think about! 

Catia –  What 3 books do you think everyone should read (and using Harry Potter for the three is not a valid answer XD)

Darn it no Harry Potter books?!  You know me so well Catia. 
I think everyone should read;

1. The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare (Anything Shadowhunter really!)
   I fell in love with The Mortal Instruments years ago and then read TID and Lady Midnight after it, I still love the series and think everyone should try it out! 
2. The Hunger Games by Susanne Collins
   Considering i’m writing part of my dissertation on Katniss, I think she deserves a mention here. The Hunger Games is great not only for a dystopian fantasy but I love Katniss being a kick ass heroine. Women rebelling against their governments? I love it.
3. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah. J Maas
   This was one of my favourite reads this year, alongside ACOMAF so I’m forever recommending it!

Lauren –

What Hogwarts Classes would you love to attend?

OMG THEM ALL but to name but a few;

Now this is my practical one – Flying Lessons. I can barely walk in a straight line so I’ll need those lessons.
Transfiguration and Care of Magical Creatures. Imagine flying a Hippogriff?
Potions too – Snapes speech from the first book is one of my favourite moments..

You are here to learn the subtle science and exact art of potion-making. As there is little foolish wand-waving here, many of you will hardly believe this is magic. I don’t expect you will really understand the beauty of the softly simmering cauldron with its shimmering fumes, the delicate power of liquids that creep through human veins, bewitching the mind, ensnaring the senses. . . I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even stopper death — if you aren’t as big a bunch of dunderheads as I usually have to teach.

What’s some things about blogging that you didn’t expect?

How hard it really is, Blogging is a hobby of course and it’s fun but I never anticipated the amount of work that really goes into it. Making headers, writing posts or simply getting the inspiration but the plus side of this and another thing I didn’t expect has to be the amount of friends I have made. 
There’s so many kind people on here, including you Lauren of course. People who love the same things as me and are always there to chat to, offer support and advice.
I feel like my blog has not only offered me a place to share my passion but also a place to escape to and be surrounded by lovely people. People who don’t judge you and allow you to rant as well. I truly appreciate this environment. 

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?

I have always wanted to go to Australia, ever since I was a little girl. My dad actually joined the New Zealand Army when he was 17 and was in Australia for a little while, he talks about those days so fondly and I wish I could go there with him so he can experience it again. It seems such a beautiful place. 

What’s your most recent 5 star read?

Divergent by Veronica Roth, I had the series for years but it was spoiled for me by a friend so I never actually picked it up. I loved it and I’m basing my dissertation partially on Tris’ character too. As I mentioned for Catia’s question, I love strong females leads and whilst she has her issues and does act impulsively I really enjoyed it. 

 Matched by Ally Condie was the last book I reviewed and that was a close 5 star for me and I’m currently reading the Uglies series by Scott Westerfield which i’m loving too. Can you tell i’m a dystopian fan? XD
