The One Where I’m Really Excited….

water colour - blog post

Today I wanted to share with you some of the books that I am anticipating this year, this is just a sample of the ones I can’t wait for, so I will definitely do more of these in the future. I myself really like to read these posts because it introduces me to new books and authors that I may not have heard of before, as well as giving me information on authors I know but didn’t know they had a new book coming out.

Without further ado, here are my picks:

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Illustrated edition) by J.K Rowling and Jim Kay.

Release Date: October 4th 2016

I am super excited for this to be released, I have the illustrated edition of Philosopher’s Stone and it is absolutely gorgeous, the illustrations are bright and eye-catching. It’s a whole new experience reading it with the illustrations.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K Rowling

Release Date: July 31st 2016

You know me, anything Harry Potter and I shall love it. I have actually been seeing this all over the news lately as the shows are currently on in London. I have zero clue what it is about because I refuse to see any spoilers #keepthesecrets.

Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare

Release Date: November 15th 2016

Shadowhunters also give me life alongside Hogwarts, can I be a hogwarts attending Shadowhunter? Is that allowed?

Carve The Mark by Veronica Roth

Release Date: January 17th 2017 (so long)

carve the mark

Could we just take a moment to look at the beauty that is this cover?

Carve the Mark is going to be Veronica Roth’s new Sci- Fi Fantasy Series and it sounds AMAZING. Here is the summary for the book…

On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favoured by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not – their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world? Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s current gift gives her pain and power – something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows. Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual current gift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive – no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive – or to destroy one another.

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

Release Date: September 22nd 2016

3 dark crowns

Again the cover is what initially drew me towards the book, I love the contrasting crowns on the black background. The story itself sounds brilliant though, triplets fighting each other to death until one gets the crown?!  Here’s the summary:

In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomach-ache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of beasts.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose . . . it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.

The last queen standing gets the crown.

So there’s 5 books I am excited to be released this year, what books are you most excited for this year? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I read Tales of Shadowhunter Academy in ebook and I enjoyed them a lot more than the Bane Chronicles! They really give important insight as to what happenened between CoHF and Lady Midnight! Also, have you noticed that the illustrated edition of Chamber of Secrets comes with two different title font? There is two editions on Amazon.ca and its the only difference I see, yet they are not the same price. Weird!

    1. I only just noticed the Title difference, although on the Amazon UK one is actually down as pre-order then the one with the Harry Potter writing on the front rather than the standard font is on a used section for £159. Surely can’t be real? The other editions are only going to be £15 haha! I’m definitely going to need to read the Shadowhunter Academy before Lady Midnight then, otherwise I will probably find myself really lost.

  2. I’m really excited for Three Dark Crowns– it sounds like it’s going to be such a good fantasy.
This is going to sound crazy…but I still haven’t read Harry Potter. Don’t worry! I’m going to read it this summer and I’m so pumped.

    1. Don’t worry Sophie! I only started reading them last year, I always went to the book releases and then never read them (I don’t know why). I’m excited for you to get into them, they are amazing XD

  3. Yes to all the Harry Potter! My son gave me the Illustrated Sorcerer’s Stone for Christmas and the new one comes out just before my birthday, so I have already told him that is what I want. Ha ha. I heard that the Barnes and Nobles are going to have midnight drop parties, like they did with with the last four HP books, for The Cursed Child, but this time my son and my nephew are not interested in going so I will be missing this it. I was excuted when someone said they were going to release an expanded version hardcover of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, but then the description changed to that it was going to be the movie storyline in written form. I would much rather have a big encyclopedia of magical beasts.

    1. Yes imagine how fantastic that would be, just a giant book of them all! I would also watch a ten hour movie of Harry Potter which contained every detail of the books haha! How lovely your son got you the illustrated version for Christmas, the pictures are so bright and eye-catching aren’t they? I reckon a midnight drop party would be extremely popular for The Cursed Child, I haven’t seen anything advertised for something like that near me! I shall have to have a search round to see if their is 🙂
