It’s been about 4 days since my last blog post and I have to admit I have been feeling very uninspired lately, I have been feeling a reading slump coming along. Does anybody else sense them coming?
I always try to push it away before it can fully take hold, normally I do this by reaching for my favourite YA Contemporary, this time however I started Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince because I am still yet to finish this series. I know… How late am I to this party?
I have seen all the films but I never picked up the books, which is strange because I was their alongside my sister queuing up at the bookstores on their release days so i’m not really sure why I didn’t.
I do LOVE Harry Potter though, I think J.K Rowling is my ultimate author/ queen. Harry Potter for me is a-lot more than a book series or movie series, even though I haven’t finished all the books within this series they have helped me in so many ways. As you may know I have Anxiety and some day’s it is a real struggle to get out of bed, I spend hours lay questioning every decision I have ever made, who I am and I worry about future situations. For those of you who don’t have Anxiety then the best way I can describe it for me personally is it’s like having someone permanently next to you, in your ear making you second guess everything. Harry Potter offers me an escape from this, the magic and Hogwarts as a whole makes me feel safe and it makes me feel happy.
This post is basically just to tell you guys what I am currently up to, I have been so excited about reading Harry Potter, (it is successfully pulling me from the dreaded reading slump thoughts) I wanted to make a post dedicated to it so far and also make a sort of discussion out of it because I am relatively new to the book fandom and I really want to interact with other fans of the series as well.
Firstly for those who don’t know I do have a bookstagram, now I must say my pictures aren’t very good, I take them on my mobile and their isn’t really a solid theme to my posts. I just love sharing what I am currently reading, new purchases and basically everything bookish that I just take a quick picture and pop it up, however lately I have been experimenting and trying out new things. Considering I have been really into Harry Potter lately, I have been doing a little ‘photo-shoot’ of sorts with my Harry Potter items, my Instagram username is @mortalreader1 if you want to check it out, I have included a few ‘sneak peeks’ within this post of the photo’s I have currently taken and put up.
Secondly I can’t not post some of my thoughts on this series so far, I have posted reviews for Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in the past then I seemed to have stopped there. I will definitely do better and up-to date reviews in the future but here are some of the things I love so far:
- Ron Weasley – Ron is my favourite character, I absolutely love him.
- Ron and Hermione OTP – I shipped these two from the very beginning, everytime they are featured in any of the books I find myself smiling
- Prisoner of Azkaban – Of course I haven’t finished the series but this is my favourite book so far
I want to list everything, because the series is full of such rich imagery that J.K Rowling makes me feel like I am alongside the characters.
Finally lets discuss Harry Potter Merch, now I want to discuss this because I want a wand so bad but my friend has made me second guess myself. I love this series and I will love it forever, but i’m 21? Am I allowed to buy a wand? My friend laughed at me and basically if you have read my Stereotypes and Readers… post you will understand that they don’r really understand my love for books or reading. The conversation led me to think I was being childish but I wanted to bring it forth in this community because I feel I can be the real me here without having to hide what I like.
I feel like you’re all going to be scratching your heads, questioning what the heck is going on in this post. It features everything and I am asking so many questions, I hold my hands up, it’s not very structured. I have come on here and just wrote down a bunch of thoughts, it’s a raw discussion post if you will. I really am interested in what you think so I hope you like this post and please check out some of the questions I have below:
- Are you a Harry Potter Fan?
- Who is your favourite character?
- Let me Know if you have any Harry Potter Merch
Basically anything Harry Potter related I would love to have a discussion with you and hear what you think.

It is totally cool to get a wand at 21! I want one, and I’m older than you 😉 Most of the Harry Potter fandom is older than the series is technically geared for – late teens through to thirties. The first book came out in ’97, so the people who were into it in its day are now adults, and most still love it.
I’m jealous of people who are reading the books for the first time as adults. I read them all as they were coming out (about 2 years late to the first two – I was only 6 when it came out in 97), and I wonder what it would be like to experience them for the first time now.

I think i’m going to get one! 😀
I’m the opposite, I wonder what it was like to experience them as they first were coming out. It’s weird how I never picked them up back then, I think it’s because I was so young and I didn’t really get into reading till I was about 17/18. Reading them now has been wonderful though, I have an overactive imagination so i’m sure I actually read them and imagine them like I would of done back as a child 😀

I’m a potterhead for sure. I have a shrine at home, as my friends like to call it (it’s just two full shelves of books and stuff). I followed you on Instagram! Mine is ohdrey.reads 🙂

I actually just read the series last April so don’t feel bad and I feel you, I wish that I started reading this a lot sooner! Gosh, there’s nothing wrong for wanting a wand at 21yo, I’m way past 10yo and I’m still waiting for my Hogwarts letter! And great shot, it’s a shame that I currently don’t have a bookstagram.
Prisoner of Azkaban is also my top pick along with The Deathly Hallows. And my favorite character is Luna Lovegood, gosh I love for so much! 😆💙

Thank you Louise 😀
Haha I am waiting for my Hogwarts Letter too XD
Let me know when you get Bookstagram and i’ll be sure to give you a follow, Luna is so lovely and unique. I love her character also because of how JK Rowling helped cast her for the movies, it’s heart touching story! 🙂

I can’t stop smiling either whenever there’s Ron Hermione even mentionned somewhere. I just love them WAY TOO MUCH ❤
I really like harry potter, and I saw all of the movies before even starting to read the books. I know, ahah. I think my favorite character is Ron, I just find him quite incredible, I love him! ❤ I don't have any Harry Potter merch though, but there are some things I find quite pretty, especially jewelly! ❤ ❤ (and I LOVE YOUR PICTURES <3)

You’re similar to me then having watched the films before the books, how did you find reading them after watching the films? I know some people don’t like doing it in that order but I liked being able to get a proper image of Hogwarts in my head and all the extra bits in the books were also fantastic, their was a-lot of extra detail so I found that even having watched the films I couldn’t exactly pinpoint what would happen next because of the extra bits 🙂 Of course I knew the overall ending but not the little details.
I keep seeing necklaces in the shape of wands and now i’m really considering buying one. 😀

I found them quite great! Obviously I had the images of the movie in my mind as I read, so I’m guessing my HP experience is different in that way, but I loved it anyway 🙂
And exactly!! Those little details in the book made it wonderful, and not too predictable, I loved it 🙂

I followed you on Instagram 😊 And your photos are awesome!
I loved this post. I always get so happy whenever someone discovers Harry Potter and falls in love with it. Don’t feel too bad about being late to the series – at least you don’t have to wait for the books because that wasn’t fun 😂 Harry Potter honestly changed my life which sounds dramatic, but it’s so true. It helped with my anxiety and depression as a teenager because I got to escape for a while. It’s what really got me into reading and into online communities. I feel so lucky that I got to experience most of the books at the same age the characters were (I was 11 when I read Philosopher’s Stone and 17 when I read Deathly Hallows). That said what I love about Harry Potter is that you can read it any age and fall in love with it because it’s such a timeless story.
My favourite book is Prisoner of Azkaban too! And Order of the Phoenix. It’s so hard to choose a favourite character but I do adore Hermione and Luna. Sadly I don’t have any merch though – well except for a Slytherin shirt that I’ve misplaced and a little mini replica of Hermione’s wand haha. I REALLY want to try and buy more though and I’m considering getting a Deathly Hallows or lightning bolt tattoo.

Thanks for following me on Instagram Lauren, I will be sure to head over and follow you back! I completely agree with you, you can read Harry Potter at any age and still love it. It’s wonderful that it helped you in such a personal way as well, it definitely helps with my anxiety 🙂
A tattoo would be so cool, my sister has the Dumbledore quote ‘happiness can be found even in the darkest of times when one remembers to turn on the light’. I’m super jealous of it, I would definitely like one myself but I am a wimp so I don’t think I could handle it. Perhaps a life time supply of temporary tattoo’s and i’ll just pretend?
