‘All of the legends are true’
Shadowhunters is due to air on Freeform (abc family) on January 12th, that’s exactly 23 days from now therefore I wanted to post a discussion about it.
I am a huge fan of The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare and I was equally a fan of the film The Mortal Instruments, City of Bones. The cast featured Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace and Lily Collins as Clary and they will now forever be how I picture Jace and Clary, however that doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to the TV show because that wouldn’t be true. I am extremely excited to see how they approach the books and bring the series to life.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with The Mortal Instruments series then the premise of the series is told through ‘the main female protagonist 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.”
One particular change is the character of Luke Garroway, within the book series he is Clary’s mum’s bestfriend and he owns a bookstore. Now the plan for the series is for him to be an NYPD Cop; a source says that Luke is
“an NYPD detective investigating a string of “demonic” murders. Luke feels a fatherly instinct to protect Clary, a strong affection for Jocelyn and has secrets of his own. Once a strong and powerful Shadowhunter, he has since become the thing he once hated most – a werewolf pack leader.”
Understandably a-lot of fans are angry at this however I embrace this change, I feel like it will allow Luke to play a more active and center role in the TV Show whilst also giving the TV show a sense of mystery whilst we Who is conducting the demonic murderers? This will also attract other viewers to the show, those who aren’t familiar to the books therefore hopefully allowing it to stay on air for as many series as possible. Cassandra Clare has mentioned that the TV Show will not take any chronological order like the book series therefore even fans of the books can’t be sure what will happen.
Ultimately this will be a TV series that is full of mystery, romance, comedy, supernatural/paranormal elements all thrown in to a dystopian world. I myself look forward to the TV Series, let me know what you think in the comments.
